Mary Hubert

  General Notes:

When Thomas's will was proved in 1831, he names his son Thomas, and daughters Anne CLEAVE, wife of William CLEAVE, and Mary BANYON, wife of Robert BANYON .......... The researcher at Westminster City Archives could find no entry for a Mary HUBERT. However Mary BANYON wife of Robert BANYON died in 1844 aged 64, indicating that she was born circa 1780, suggesting that Thomas was at the time married to Mary DOANE.

Mary HUBERT was born around 1780, the oldest child of Thomas HUBERT and Mary DOANE. I have not found her baptism but her death certificate indicates that she was 64 when she died in 1844.

Mary married Robert BANYON at St James Westminster in 1804. Robert also was a lighterman, as was his father before him.

I have found three children, Mary Ann, 1811; Elizabeth 1811 and Eliza 1821, all living at home, High Street Ealing in the 1841 census. Mary Ann and Elizabeth may not be twins as the census would suggest as ages are rounded in the 1841 census.

Elizabeth did not marry and she can be found in both the 1871 and 1881 census as having been born in Brentford, which is where the family lived. It is interesting to note that in the 1871 census her occupation was given as barge owner gone out of business, although the enumerator has put a line through this entry. By 1881 she was living on her interest. Elizabeth died in 1890.

Their son Thomas appears to have been born around 1811 also, he is listed in the 1851 as a widower living at 8 Greek Street, St Annes Westminster with his 10 year old daughter, Emily. His occupation is given as a stationer. He married Eliza FLOOK in 1840, Eliza died before the 1851 census.

A daughter Sophia married Thomas PAULIN in the December quarter 1849, as their father Robert mentions his son-in-law Thomas PAULIN in his will. Sophia and Thomas were located in the 1851 census and this would indicate that Sophia was born in 1814. Thomas and Sophia had nine children, Thomas died in 1873, and Sophia died in 1880.

Robert names another son Alfred in his will, leaving instructions for Alfred to manage his business but for the business to be left to his two unmarried daughters. Alfred married Maria GUNNER in 1854,

Mary married Robert Banyon. (Robert Banyon was born circa 1780 and died after 1841.)
